Interview With "Agrath" The Winner Of "MIND ROCKS YOUTH GALA, 2011"

1. Greetings from Unholy Maunder. How are you guys doing?


A.) Currently getting used to normal life after winning at the India Today Youth Summit 2011.


2. Please let us know about the AGRATH’s line up with the instruments you guys play. Has there been any changes in the line up since its formation?


A.) Well Agrath is a 4-piece 'Lab Metal' outfit, with a new line up which is just about a month old. We have Sankalp on Lead guitars, Prithvi on Drums, Kanav on vocals/beatbox and Kaushik on Bass guitars. We had many changes in the line-up, before this current one that you see. Twice to be precise.


3. How you guys met each other and what made you form the band? 


A.) Agrath was inititated by Sankalp and Prithvi, and the the other members joined in later. Our passion for music made us form Agrath, and we started with serious stuff right from the beginning, which includes setting up our own studio.


4. Well... The name "AGRATH"... What does it mean and what’s the story behind the band name?


A.) Agrath is a sanskrit word which stands for 'Leadership' and it is also the name of a demon goddess. In short it means keeping ahead from the rest and staying demonic at the same time _\,,/ Prithvi came forward with name and we all agreed to it!


5. With what kind of genres you guys work with? And what's the specialty of the new genre i.e LAB METAL; innovated by you guys recently?


A.) Being a metal band, people usually think we listen to only heavy stuff, but that's wrong. We listen to anything and everything(provided we like it). So naturally, our influences are varied. Well, we call our genre Lab Metal 'cause it mashes up metal , rock,pop, funk , beatbox and what not, so we were not aware of any other band which does so. When Kanav joined in with his unique talents, we experimented a lot and in the end came up with a new genre - LAB METAL !!


6. The lyrics of your tracks are indeed great.. Who is the person behind such amazing lines?


A.) Our influence in lyrics is mostly about what goes on in our lives, from college to girl problems, you name it and you'll definitely have something to relate to. The lyrics and vocals and beatbox behind our new OC 'Trauma' are given by Kanav.


7. Tell us something about your recent release "TRAUMA".


A.) Once during a regular jam session, Kanav dropped by and jammed along, and we came up with something weird but amazing at the same time(actually that's when we took Kanav in the band). So we sat together, racked our brains till we were traumatized and 'Trauma' was born in 3 days.


8. Where did you guys perform for the first time and which venue attracts you the most?


A.) Our band's first ever gig was at Youth Fest in our home university(LPU). Well, like everyone else we love performing at any venue which is lively and most importantly has a good setup.


9. Most of the people want to have their own band. Its like a dream for them. But you made that dream come true. What you feel to be in a band of your own?


A.) The band is like our baby, we feel great about it, we feed it with music and WE LOVE IT. It really is a dream come true. But yeah at the same time we have to keep working hard to improve our music, as we all know music ain't an easy going field, you always have tough competition around.


10. Please share with us the winning moment of MIND ROCKS YOUTH GALA, 2011; when you defeated the hiphop band RAPEKINGZ and the fusion band AMEYA in the final.


A.) Well, we all screamed and jumped, btw kaushik even tripped and fell. It was awesome to know that we defeated 694 others fighting for the top spot !


11. By the way do you guys take weed? :D


A.) The band is against drugs. But man, do we love BEER !


12. Tell us about the metal scene at Jalandhar.


A.) Pathetic. No more comments.


13. Any upcoming albums/singles/projects?


A.) We are releasing two songs by October end and an EP in early 2012.
