Jorhat Based Filharmonix Interviewed

Our team mate Dipankar Mazumdar talked with young metal blood from Jorhat, Assam after they released their debut album.

Q1. Warm Greetings from Unholy Maunder! First of all give us a brief introduction of your Band. What ‘Filharmonix’ is all about?

Thanks buddy. FILHARMONIX?? It’s all about living life the fun way along with Heavy-Metal madness. We are five rock n roll crazy guys with rockstar dreams…That’s what being FILHARMONIX is all about.

Q2. So you have a new album out. Drive us through the sound of your new release! Also, how would you define your sound with respect to the various genres in the scene?

Yes, we just had our album "Hot n High" released. The Filharmonix sound is basically a mixture of Heavy/Glam with a flavor of Hard Rock. Catchy riffs, hooks, lyrics blended with nice bass n drums patterns & cool solos.

In comparison with the current scene & various genres, our sound is very much different. We are doing a rare genre with originals in the current time. It’s a revival of the glorious 80’s Heavy-Metal music.

Q3. Okay, we have seen you playing in many of the college fests. Share any memorable moments.

There is always some funny n awkward stuff going on when we are around. Just like last year when we went for Kabi Anglong Rock Beats, we had stuffed loads of getting high and party stuff in our bags and were planning on how to party the night before the show. But, the devil closed his eyes on us and we were given to stay in a Catholic Hostel. Abhi n K.K. were like crying to have a cigarette.

Q4. We would like to know about the root of your lyrics. Your influence comes from?

Our lyrics mostly revolve around the realities of life, living life the fun way with some textures of love. Influences are from people around us, the music that we grew up on, the way we like to live, hot chicks, heart-breaks, fun etc...

Q5. Give us a retrospect of the rock/metal scenario here in your hometown. North-east is throwing out so many talents in the scenario, creating a new level of the Indian Rock scene!

The Rock/Metal scenario here has changed a lot in North-East since the time we had started playing. Before bands had to wait for the college fests to get up on stage, which are held once in a year. But now, the scenario is like in each month minimum of two shows are held in places like Guwahati. While in places like our hometown Jorhat, it still lacks. Musicians are also starting to get paid for their music and as a result of which many bands are getting encouraged to create original music.

Previous years have seen many North-East bands rising to the Indian Rock Scene. Bands such as Faith, Lucid Recess, Girish and the Chronicles, Boomerang, Digital Suicide, Mantra have all made their share of name in the Indian Scene with their originality and creativity.

Q6. Also any suggestions or needs you want to mention in the previous respect?

Suggestions are given by everybody but what matters is who takes it in and who utilizes it. Anyways, we would suggest that bands should go for originality and create their own sound. And as far as the rock scenario is concerned, shows should be held in open areas rather than in pubs, originality should be recognized and supported. And also the circuit shouldn’t be dominated by just a single genre, which is just the current scenario in Guwahati.

Q7. Run us through the recording and production tasks for your new released album ‘Hot & High’!

”Hot n High” was produced mainly on some hard work, tons of fun, loads of booze and grass, heartache of our frontman (Beast)... We recorded all the music tracks on our band recording setup, then we recorded the vocals and some drum works at L.R. Studios in Guwahati. Mixing and mastering was at the same studio by Siddharth Barooah

Q8. Any distinct entity that separates Filharmonix from the others in the scenario?

Fun filled Heavy-Metal madness and 5 crazy guys. That’s our sound. \m/

Q9. So, what’s in store for the band in the next few years? Any projects/ shows/ albums to watch out for?

We have already started working on our next full length album. Anurag is also getting down with Purab (The Beast) for his Instrumental EP. Besides that we are looking forward to play in as many places as we can.

Q10. Speak up guys-It’s your space!

Thanks to the "Unholy guys" for covering Filharmonix through this interview. A big thanks to our fans-"THE LOVE ARMY" and Aiyushman Dutta for being with us through this journey which has just started. Do listen to our songs and spread them as far as u can...Party hard and Stay Harmonixd \m/
