Star Talks: Parikrama

Greeting from Unholy Maunder team thanks for taking the pain of talking with us, we're honored! First of all Congratulation on you guys 20th Anniversary!

-Thanks a lot mate, it’s been two decades of Rock & Roll and Chilled Beer, A big party indeed!!!

You guys not only survived (!) as a band, but as one of the best rock band of India, how does it feel? Being partying big lately?

-Mate frankly we’ve never ever been in the numbers or position game, Partying, well, when did it ever stop???

Well 20 years, but only 13 recorded songs! I remember you guys saying 'WE HAVE ENOUGH SONGS TODAY TO RECORD MORE THAN 5 FULL LENGTH ALBUMS, AND I AM TALKING TODAY!!!', do you guys really hate hitting the studio or just being lazy or one can say 'ONLY LIVE'?

-Well 13 songs, that’s absurd, don’t know where you got that figure from, anyway, yes that’s true that we really are not a studio kind of band, we love playing live and there is no better feeling than that. Most of our releases as well have been live releases, instead of studio. Whenever we get a good live track, that is recorded well, we release it, there is loads of unreleased material as well, live the latest 2 songs - as the rains may fall and mayhem in g m, we just released "Xerox" our first ever song on our reverbnation page, besides tracks like gotta get it, le chaim, screaming town, tears of the wizard, and you made me cry, life is certain, load up etc etc . infact your figure of 13 recorded songs is also technically incorrect as we hardly have any recorded tracks ( studio), probably except but it rained, till I, no one again, superhero etc, rest all are live !!!

Kinda stupid question but 'Parikrama' in Hindi means 'Circle of life' , Do you guys really believe in Rebirth and What made or inspired you guys to choose a Hindi name.

-Well, circle of denotes the theory of karma, yes we do believe in it, Hindi name was no real reason , back then there were hardly any bands with hindi names anyway !

You guys have played in many festivals like Download festival, Touring America, do share your most memorable moment and embarrassing one with us.

-Well, the feeling of standing on the mainstage at donnington was really super crazy, besides tours r always great fun, like Indonesia, we played 8 shows in 9 days, and everyday a diff city, so we would find a gig, pack , eat , drink, sleep by 2am, and next day get up at 4 am again , for a new flight, new hotel, new sound-check, show, and follow the routine again, it’s great fun .

'But it rained' undoubtedly most popular song of 'Parikrama' , tell us the story behind the song.

-Well, there was an article by Harinder Baweja, in the India Today, 15th Aug 1995, regarding the wives of the people kidnapped by the ‘al farhan’ group in Kashmir, just reading that moved us immensely, I mean , if God forbid, if there is a death in the family, you will accept it finally, or over time, but if you have a loved one missing, the feeling is a million times more painful . The feelings of people, who are left behind, inspired us to write the song.

Any upcoming gigs?

-Well, loads and loads will update on www.facebook.com/parikrama

Oh well, what's your take on Current 'Indian Rock Scene'?

-Well, it’s never ever been better, what crazy bands, great promoters, money coming in...It could never have been so good.

Any advice for the upcoming bands?

-Well, know what you want, set your goals, keep your egos out, make rules and follow them, be grounded, respect your audience and respect your band mates, respect the time of others, do your homework, I can go on and on and on !!!

Message for your fans and for U.M team.

-Well, it’s our fans for whom we live for, thank you all for being there and please join us in saying in unison" fuck you critics", the so called critics anyway. U.M team, you are doing a great job, keep it up. Peace, treez and rock and roll.
