Rectified Spirit - The Second Coming

Well if you are a lover of Permutations and Combinations,none better than the Guwahati Rock Scene. But I never imagined that I would see the following Gentlemen meeting at crossroads, and piecing a band together. The past one year has seen the new generation of bands approaching with tentative steps towards the ever growing metal scene of Guwahati. The metal band Rectified Spirit seems like, just leap frogged into it. 

Meet Samudragupta Dutta: I remember first meeting Samudra Da (as I call him), a lawyer by profession, outside Guwahati's High Court, discussing the infamous BLUES PUB fiasco. Other memories of him include, watching him hardly break a sweat while playing Megadeth's solos.  In his second coming, he looks more determined than ever. 

Nishant Hagjer: As Vishal J. Singh (read the mad scientist behind Amogh Symphony) describes him, he is "an android sitting on a drumkit". One of the finest
Guwahati's music scene exports and talents. He has been playing for various projects Silver Tears, Dark Horizon, D.O.T.H et al. He has the uncanny
ability of bagging the best drummer, whenever he lands up at a competition. IIT Guwahati's Rock O Phonix 2011 and Yamaha Zonal Finals being his recent kills. 

Githarta Goswami: The baby faced assasin. The innocuous looking boy next door, morphs into an unstoppable possessed monstrosity when he plays. He has been playing with Doorstep Casket, and is one of the finest metal guitarist in the scene.

Rainjong Lepcha: The voice of Rectified Spirit. Rainjong is also the vocalist of Dark Horizon, which rose into prominence, since their twin wins at IIT Kanpur's synchronicity 2008 and Rock O Phonix, IIT Guwahati 2009, with him bagging the best vocalist on both occasions. Undoubtedly the most versatile vocalist of the scene.

Himangshu Bora: The old Guard. He has been with the band since its inception.Recently bagging the best bassist award at the Yamaha Zonal Finals. He is the backbone of the band and instrumental, in getting Rectified Spirit up and running again.


About the Band:
Rectified Spirit was Formed in August 2005.  However, after a few years of being active in the circuit, some of the band members left the band due to various
individual engagements, in 2009. Thereafter, founder member and guitarist SamudraguptaDutta and long term bassist Himangshu Bora reformed the band again in the year 2011 with guitarist and long term friend of both, ImtiyazAlam. With newly associated vocalist RainjongLepcha and drummer NishantHagjer, the band started performing again.But due to sudden departure of their friend ImtiyazAlam, on account of his pressing individual engagements, the band then recruited guitarist GitarthaGoswami. Earlier vocalist Ankur Sharma, who was associated with the band for a brief Period, has since been looking after the band's live sound and other performance related aspects.

The single was mixed and mastered at LUCID RECESS STUDIO (Guwahati, Assam).

Lyrically, as Samudra Da tells me and I quote" BLOODRUSH specially deals with guilt. Often people do despicable things and commit sins under a rush of blood to their heads, when they surrender to their more primitive animalistic instincts, but only when that rush of blood is over does one realise that the guilt which follows it, will have to be borne only by the human being that's inside. That's what BLOODRUSH does to us. It's the time when the sinner prefers redemption rather than forgiveness, and the thing that is common between the sinner and the sinned is that none of their souls can rest in peace... that is the dichotomy or paradox of BLOODRUSH."

The band sound inherits from the native genres, the band members are coming from. Rainjong screams sets the tone, of this roller coaster called BLOODRUSH. Rainjong delivers a myriad of emotions through his vocals from start to finish. However the guitarists steal the show in this one. The twin guitar attack of Imtiyaz and Samundra is simply irresistible. The neat and slick solo, which sounds like a nice amalgamation of if all the niceties of Megadeth and Iron Maiden were put together. Nishant is spot on, with the tempo changes ably supported by the workmanship of Himangshu. Mouth watering is the fact, that these guys have just started jamming and ME wonders what they will conjure up next. Me bows to SiddharthBarooa and Amitabh Barooa(LUCID RECESS STUDIO) who are largely responsible for making the bands from the region, sound like they have never been heard before. 

In all, after the umpteenth core band hangover, I hope Rectified Spirit's Second Coming is the medicine, the scene's condition especially needed.
